Ascension Adventures - Visiting The Syrian Refugee Centers in Urfa Turkey

Psychonauts from Planet Earth!

I prepared for you a very special blog post as i visited the Syrian Refugee Center in Urfa, Turkey! I was doing preliminary research on various indigenous groups around Iraq and Syria, Turkey, and i wanted to somehow see hands on what is happening right now to all the thousands of Yazidi and Syrian Refugees being displaces from their homes in the mountains and desert regions of this both unstable countries..

Here is a Video explaining a basic introduction on what this organization is doing:

As i arrived to Urfa one of the most beautiful and ancestral cities in the World, this is the Birthplace of Civilization there are archeological remains found here belonging to Gobekli Tepe located only 30KM from the city center, also is the home of the Prophet Abraham and all religions are center in this sacred city.

When you visit Urfa is like setting up a time machine and going back thousands of years into the past, you can still see the ancestral architecture still standing till this day, honoring the past.

As i arrived in the Central Bus Station obviously being watched by everyone like an alien :) i went ahead and had some lunch in a restaurant, i could see that the  local workers had distinct physical features, as well as there was a language barrier they did not speak Turkish they spoke Arabic.

The waiter was complaining about them saying " Fucking Syrians " they come in masses here and they take our jobs, he was screaming at them and telling them what to do in a very Aggressive manner, the innocent refugees were at all time appearing afraid and just complying to the commands by their boss figure..

I was disgusted to see this so i call them to my table, they were putting water bottles inside cooling fridges, and i said COME COME! they laugh and got shy

One of them came up to me and spoke to me in Arabic and all i did was i smile to him and close my eyes and gave him a gesture of love and compassion and i said Syria Nice! and gave him thumbs up! His eyes lighted up and he smile back,  i continued eating my lunch and eventually all his friends were all smiling back at me and speaking about me, a very cheerful moment that filled my heart with love and gratitude to know and realize how many parallel dimensions of realities are co existing at this very own moment, how incredible is to peak into another human's life and to see and feel their pain and their life situation.

This emotion is what reinforces my spirit of traveling, to know more of whats happening in the world giving me a perspective of the global situation and to have more emphaty and understanding for our human race..

I then finished my lunch and walk away from the table, before being rushed by them to offer me a bottle of water and they wanted to take a picture with me, this is what it came out..

For the next days in Urfa, i saw numerous refugees but i wasn't really sure who they were or what was happening, it took me a few days to distinguished between their outfits and their language spoken, i saw numerous indigenous groups with mostly older woman with their face tattoo and ancestral tradition that is carried still until this very own days..

I did an online search and i was so lucky to find the Refugee Center exactly in Urfa, i was about 1 Hour from the Syrian Border so i thought it would be located more towards the border, since when i visited near archeological sites in the area actually towards the Turkish Border i saw giant refugee camps, it was very sad scene and i couldn't take a photo because of the intensity of the situation..

Finally i made it to the Refugee Center and i met "FARUK" a really beautiful guy that was kind enough to give me a tour of the entire center.

All the people working at the IMPR Sanlurfa Community Humanitarian Center were so happy to be there, there was numerous teenagers and people my age volunteering helping kids, teaching them basic Turkish to reintegrate them into the local community, giving them a second chance and a second life..

Deeper Interview on the actual undergoing process happening in the Community Center..

I am very proud of what the Turkish Authorities have done here, to open up their borders and let their muslim brothers have a second chance, an opportunity to survive and live among the Turkish Population, its really incredible situation that this kind of government and non profit organizations exist to help one another and to establish a neutral ground in this stupid earth politics, where the only people suffering are the mass population on the decisions of this people in power..

Faruk Gave me a tour of the facilities explaining me in detail each individual branch does and how they are involved in helping and assisting the refugee community..

We tour the entire facility and i met every single volunteer and psychologist, doctors that were on duty.

The facilities were optimized to host as many refugees as they come, and they had other facilities located in the vicinity to provide support, they were equipped with modern technology such as computers for the refugees to help them find things and to establish basic computer technology educational support, i offer them my services for free as a Graphic Designer / Web Developer and Hosting if they needed to do anything high tech they had my full support..

There was a TV Room with a projector, many of the kids have lost their parents in the war or during the walk in the mountains dying along the way, many were killed by terrorist, a horrible tragedies that this kids have endure, i sat with them and laugh and made jokes with them, i showed them my hair and they were all amazed and curious, some of them put their fingers inside my pierced ears, they all had a great time, i didn't want to take any photos of the action because they already feel they are victims and by snapping their photos i felt it would reinforce this views and traumas and perhaps scar them forever, what they need to do is to reintegrate normally in the community and the IMPR Center is doing an incredible work in this!!

There are numerous workshop activities such as painting and arts.

There is also workshops to teach the people how to make clothing and sell it in the market, an easy way to make easy cash and contribute to the local community, there are many machines available for anyone any time, and there are very talented teachers offering everyone the opportunity to learn and participate..

Here are some of the stuff the refugees made while i was there..

This are the type of conditions they we living before they were transfer and moved to this new center in the city..

Children's as well as adults need to learn Turkish and English in order to reintegrate back into the community, they spoke to me that they also help them to guide them so they can get ready to go to Europe and or America or other parts of the World, so they prepare them pretty much to establish new life's in other "First World Countries".

Faruk was telling me there are other programs called " Basket Programs " were they go into remote villages in the mountains and deliver baskets of food and clothing and necessary survival supplies, this is a risk free operation that enables them to help the villagers without being exposed to any danger..

This are some of the Heroes working at the Refugee Center:

He is working on the IT Technical Department, there are hundreds of volunteers coming every day and there needs to be large amounts of database and paper work that needs to be filled, many of the refugees get Turkish Legal Residency and all of this needs to be typed into the computers..

Part of the Research and Development team working on the IT Side making sure all the applications are filled and there is communication between the government and other international agencies..

Most of the Team spoke perfect English, i was actually very surprised to see this, it seems that in Syria most educated people speak very good English and French.

A lot of the Volunteers come to the center to play music for the Refugees..

One of the big problems happening right now in Syria and Iraq is that the terrorist groups have placed mines all over the Kurdish Region, and since then there has been thousands of fatalities due to this horrendous, evil behavior of this terrorists..

Our friends at the Syrian Refugee Center explains us in depth about this mine situation happening right now..

One of the also fundamental keys of success for the Syrian Refugee Center is the need of Funding, there has been staggering numbers of Refugees fleeing their homes in the mountains escaping towards turkey, this has brought a large influx of mixed political views in the region. Putting lots of stress into the already suffering poverty community in the Southern Turkey.

I think is important to raise the awareness of this non profit organization and become involved somehow either by donating money to the organization, organizing clothing delivery, supplies, local support, advertisement, web, tech development, anyway whatsoever to get involved..

In the west or in Europe always the youth complain specially in social media networks, but they dont understand that there only a plane away to get involved to become a humanitarian doesn't require any experience but an open heart...

There is soo much work we can do if we join eachother to bring about the Golden Age of Awakening, we have that power deep within us, its time to reawaken this inner powers and become involved one way or another either by providing international support to this non profit organizations or to show support in any way possible..

This is the Psychologist helping dozens of children's every day as well as adults to overcome the traumas of this horrible war..
